Rosebud is a small dedicated group that welcomes anyone interested in mysticism. We have a passion for discussion and eagerly seek other’s opinions on mystical matters.
Location: Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring
The church is located at 10309 Oaklawn Drive, (off of New Hampshire Avenue) Silver Spring, Maryland.
Take the Washington Beltway (495) to exit 28A (New Hampshire/White Oak exit - North towards White Oak), take exit 28A onto New Hampshire Avenue. Go north on New Hampshire passing the Hillandale Shopping Center on the right. Turn right on Oaklawn Drive (1/4 mile past the Powder Mill intersection).
Master’s Message
Mastership
The goal of hermetic philosophy is to master self and environment. As we progress in our studies we discover that mastering our environment is more a process of mastering self than controlling those around us. Focused effort and control of our thoughts naturally lead to control of action. Control of thought and action eventually lead to environmental tendencies: others are friendly, people naturally wish to satisfy your needs and so on.
Another area that control of thought plays a role is in concentration. The typical person’s mind is similar to a hurricane. One moment thinking about work, the next about some comment, exaggerated confidence followed by self doubt. These random thoughts are partially responsible for our chaotic environment. By quieting our mind for fifteen minutes and concentrating on a specific thought we raise that thought above the background noise. Part of attaining mastery over ourselves is discontinuing the constant internal dialog. Once the background noise is removed the simplest thought can transfix self and environment.
